O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today. 
May these passages give me hope, strength, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for my daily life 

Holofernes laid siege against the Israelite mountain town of Bethulia.

Holofernes seized control of Bethulia's  water supply springs,
thinking that thirst would force the Israelites to surrender.

For 34 days the siege continued, until the people of Bethulia were weak from thirst.

The people of Bethulia prayed hard to God for help.

The leaders of Bethulia planned to hold out for 5 more days
before surrendering.

A feeling of hopelessness hung over the town.

God, help of the helpless,
 please help people who are in big trouble

O Lord, please forgive my sins and heal me.
Heal my body which is sick because of my sins.

Protect me, Lord, from those who gloat over me
now that I am brought low and unable to help myself.

Lord, you have shown me how short a time I have on earth.
Lord, give me wisdom of heart to live my life better.

Lord, help us understand the meaning of life

Jesus, please give me patience and praise when life gets tough

John the Baptist told his disciples Andrew and John that Jesus was the Chosen One of God.  Andrew and John then followed Jesus

Andrew took his brother Simon to Jesus.
Jesus changed Simon's name to Peter, and Peter followed Jesus

Jesus met  Philip and said to him "Follow me". 
Philip called one more man, Nathanael (Bartholomew) and said to him
"we have found the one Moses and the prophets wrote about.
He is Jesus, son of Joseph, from Nazareth"

Jesus, please help me introduce more people to know and love you
