O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today. 
May these passages give me hope, strength, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for my daily life 

Judith put ashes on her head, bowed with her face to the ground,
and prayed urgently to God:

"Lord God, help of the oppressed, support of the weak,
please hear my prayer and protect your people Israel."

Dear God, help us to imitate Judith
and pray to you with faith when we are in trouble

Blessed the person who helps the poor and the weak.
He himself will be helped by the Lord when he is sick and in trouble.

The Lord will help him on his bed of pain.
The Lord will bring him back from sickness to health.

Lord, please help me to do more for the poor

Don't go thinking you're "religious" while your tongue is out of control. 
That's the wrong idea of religion

Genuine religion, in the eyes of God our Father is this: 
coming to the help of orphans and widows, and staying clear of bad values

Jesus, help me control my tongue
...and help me do more to help the poor

Just before the Passover Feast, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
In the Temple he saw people selling cattle and sheep and pigeons, 
with money changers sitting at their counting tables

Jesus made a whip out of some cord, then drove the sellers out of the Temple,
cattle and sheep as well. He scattered the money changers' coins, knocked their tables over, and said to the pigeon sellers "Take all of this out of here and stop turning my Father's house into a market"

Some religious leaders asked him "What sign can you show us to justify what you have done?"

Jesus answered "Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will raise it up". 
The leaders replied "It has taken 46 years to build this sanctuary"

But Jesus was speaking of the sanctuary that was his body, 
and when he rose from the dead, his disciples remembered his words

Jesus, please don't let churches and prayer centers become centers of commerce
