First Maccabees 4

The army of Antiochus was led by Gorgias and had 40,000 men.
Judas and his men numbered only 3,000.

Judas implored God for help and then fought bravely.
The army of Gorgias was routed.

The next year another force, numbering 60,000 men, was sent against Judas who had 10,000 men.

Once again by prayer and courage, Judas was victorious.
Judas gave thanks to God, and then went to Jerusalem.

In Jerusalem Judas re-dedicated the Temple
and re-built the city walls

Dear God, please give me the courage of Judas

Psalm 81

Ring out your joy to God our strength,
shout in triumph to the God of Jacob.

Listen to the voice of the Lord:

"I am the Lord your God
who brought you out from the land of Egypt.

Let there be no foreign god among you,
no worship of a false god.

O that my people would heed me,
that Israel would walk in my ways.

At once I would subdue their foes.
But Israel I would feed with finest wheat and honey".

Lord, please help us to walk in your ways

1 Peter 3

Wives, honor and respect your husbands.
If some husbands  are not yet believers, they may find themselves won over to the Lord,
without a word spoken, by the goodness of their wives

Wives, do not dress up for show:
special hair style, gold bracelets, expensive clothes - all outside stuff

What matters is what's inside: a sweet and gentle disposition - that's what God likes

Husbands, be kind and thoughtful to your wives,
respecting them as equals

Jesus,  help  husbands and wives imitate your love

John 6

The people said among themselves  "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"

Jesus replied "If you refuse to eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink his blood,
you will not have life in you. Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life

For my flesh is real food, and my blood is real drink.
Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I live in them

As I, who am sent by the living Father, myself draw life from the Father,
so whoever eats me will draw life from me

This is the bread come down from heaven.
Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever"

Jesus, thank you for the gift of your Body and Blood in Holy Communion
