O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today.                     
May these passages give me hope, strength, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for my daily life             Chinese text

As the years went on, several nearby countries made war on Israel.
But Judas and his followers used prayer and courage to defeat all enemies.

When King Antiochus heard of Judas' continued victories,
he became severely depressed and realized he was dying.

The king's son succeeded him and he too sent a huge army against Israel. 

This army also failed to defeat Judas.
The king then made peace with the Jews and for a time there was peace.

Dear God, please help all nations to live in peace

God says to corrupt officials:

"How long will you judge unjustly and mistreat the poor?
You should do justice for the weak and the orphan.

You should defend the afflicted and the needy.
You should rescue the weak and the poor.
You should set them free from the hand of the wicked".

O God, please protect your people from corruption and injustice.
Save us also from attack by other nations.

Let everyone know that you are the Lord of all the earth.

Lord, please stop corrupt officials from hurting people

Be agreeable and sympathetic. Love everyone.
Have compassion and be self-effacing

Never pay back one wrong with another, or an angry word with another one. 
Instead, pay back with a blessing

Anyone who wants to have a happy life must banish malice from his tongue;
he must avoid evil, do good and seek peace

Jesus, when people are  unkind to me, help me to pray in my heart "Lord, please bless them"

After hearing what Jesus said about his flesh and blood,
many of his disciples said "How can anyone believe in such crazy ideas?"
Many disciples then stopped following Jesus

Jesus said to the 12 apostles "What about you? Are you also going to leave me?"

Peter replied "Lord, who shall we go to? You have the message of eternal life.
We believe you are the Holy One of God"

Jesus, please don't ever let me stop following you
