O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today.

Some Jews who were disloyal to Judas joined with supporters of the new king, Demetrius, 
to plot the overthrow of Judas.

Nicanor, one of the king's generals, was sent to defeat Judas and exterminate the Jews.

But when the battle took place, Nicanor himself died and his army was routed.

Once again the land experienced peace of a while.

Dear God, please protect us from people who are disloyal

I will hear what the Lord God has to say,
a voice that speaks of peace.

Peace for his people and his friends
and those who turn to him in their hearts.

His help is near for those who love him
and his glory will dwell in our land.

Mercy and faithfulness have met.
Justice and peace have embraced.

Faithfulness shall spring from the earth
and justice shall look down from heaven.

The Lord will make us prosper
and our earth shall yield its fruit.

Justice shall march before him
and peace shall follow his steps

Lord, please give more peace to our world

If you have a share in the sufferings of Christ, be glad, 
because this means you will have an extra share of happiness in the life to come

It is a blessing for you when they insult you for being a Christian.
It means you have the Spirit of God resting on you

People who experience suffering for God's sake,
must trust themselves to the grace of the Creator, and keep on doing good

Jesus, give strength to persecuted Christians

During the Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem, Jesus called out loudly  in the Temple
"If anyone is thirsty, come to me.
Anyone who believes in me, come and drink!"

As Scripture says "From his heart will flow fountains of living water"

Jesus was speaking of the Holy Spirit, which people who believed in him were to receive. 
The Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified

Holy Spirit, flowing from the heart of Jesus, please increase your influence in my life
