Lighting up the Dark Continent - a call to all Africans

Once a friend of mine asked me why I’m proud to be African…. I must confess that I have never thought of this until he asked me. I posed and asked myself if I’m proud to be African.  Well, having thought this through, I asked myself a few questions., thus

1.     why did God create us black while the rest of the world have the same skin pigmentation?.(they say that black is beautiful and I think that is one of the reasons that I’m proud to be African).

2.     Africa is uniquely and wonderfully made. When you transverse the continent, you will find deserts, sand dunes, waterfalls, large rivers and lakes, mountains, forests, the wildlife that will awe you. People pay fortunes from other continents to come and see these wonderful resources that we take for granted and make very little effort of appreciating and nurturing them;

3.     The minerals underneath the African continent are endless; can never been exhausted. - The minerals have been a cause of conflicts and bloodshed.

4.     The Good Lord gave Africa everything Large and in abundance. The women are big and beautiful and the men are strong and muscular- hence were even taken as slaves to work in Far Lands

5.     When you look at the artists and sportsmen around the world, you will find that a great percentage of the top ten are Africans

The list is endless. However, I ask, why is it that we in Africa are involved in the shadiest of deals- drug peddling, robbery with violence, illegal workers, trading in illegal firearms, name it? Why is it that we cannot appreciate that God created us in a special way and blessed us abundantly so that we can live our lives beautifully in the serene environment that he put is in? Why do we not use the strength that we are naturally endowed with for innovation and positive energies?

I call unto all my brethren (sisters and brothers) in Africa to arise and pool all their strength so as to light up the continent that has forever been referred to as the Dark Continent.  Use your minds and physical strength to channel the energies to constructive work. Let it shine and yet be proud to be black!
