                                                     - reflection on joint date of Transfiguration and Hiroshima

This Feast of Light

“And as they were coming down from

  the mountain,  Jesus warned them

“Do not tell anybody of what  you have

seen until the Son of Man has risen from

  the dead”

MATTHEW Chapter 17- The Gospel for the 2nd Sunday of Lent

This Sunday

in early Lent

is time again

to listen

to words that tell

of Christ transfigured

on the hill.

Later,

when August heat

has come

and lazy days

of summer

leave Lent a memory

Christ’s transfiguration

is told again.

By what strange coincidental twist

did the Introit

of that Feast of Light

foretell the day of holocaust

and heat of Atomic Transformation?

“All the world shone with thy lightning

                                                              and the troubled earth shook”

Psalm 76:  Introit – The Roman Missal

for the Feast of the Transfiguration of   August 6th

                                                             -  the date of the atomic explosion over Hiroshima .
