The second morning

Without a second thought

the sun rose this morning

shining in a blue sky

patched with occasional white.

There was certainty in this happening,

no doubt, after the hours of night

that the brilliant orange light

would come again.

After other darkness, morning makes

no difference, warm embraces

and the tight clasp of hands give small

comfort in the cold shadows.
