2012-01-03   End game: a 4 letter word

When St John the apostle was an old man,
his sermons were like a broken record.
All he ever talked about was love
..."God is love....if you live in love, you live in God"

When a mature St Paul drew up his Top Ten,
love came in at Number One
..."the greatest gift of all is love..."

After years of desert sermons,
the sands of time had Moses down to one idea:
..."love our God.....love your neighbour"

At the end of his life,
Jesus summed up his life and teaching in the words
"love one another, as I have loved you"

Moses, Jesus, Paul and John
.....one little 4 letter word said it all: love

When everything is said and done,
it all comes down to one word: love

If we want to test anything,
if we want to check the value of any idea, any meeting,
any proposal, any writing, any organisation, any activity,
we just have to ask:
what has it got to do with love?
Does it do anything to promote love of God and love of neighbour?

At the endgame of my life,
the only thing that will matter
will be:
how have I loved God
and how have I loved others?

At endgame time,
the only account that will matter
will be the bankbook of love

Not just at endgame,
but right now, today.
The only thing that really matters
is: how am I going re love of God and love of neighbour?

Is there anything I can do
anything I should do,
anything I should change,
to increase my love of God and love of neighbour?

God, you are love itself.
Grant that we may love you
and love others
the way you love us
