Dear Friends
How many parish councils have someone under
50?
How many parish councils have someone aged
21?
What importance do we give to 21 year olds?
Well, today's the birthday, in 1813, of a man
who at the age of 21
established an organization which now has some 700,000 members in 142 countries
and is the largest charitable organization in many countries
The man: Frederick Ozanam
The organization: The St Vincent de Paul Society

One special sentence from Wikipedia
article on Ozanam:
"he was an earnest and conscientious advocate of ... the view
that the Church should adapt itself to the changed political conditions
consequent to the French Revolution"
The Church in France after the revolution was
in a mess. A much bigger mess than today's Church.
Ozanam didn't sit around doing nothing. He didn't engage in the blame game about
who was responsible for the mess.
He didn't advocate "circling the wagons" and retreating into a comfort
zone.
He hit the ground helping people who were suffering as a result of the mess
What an example!
