Dear Friends
It is common knowledge in Hong Kong, that when
a HK young lady is looking for a husband,
she tries to find a quiet, not necessarily handsome, mild-mannered Clark
Kent type,
rather than a handsome, loud, Superman type
Reason? The handsome guys are easily
distracted by, or easily distract,
the opposite gender....and might fly away with another bird (...to sustain the
analogy...)
Last Tuesday night I saw three AAA-Good
husbands:
they were at a local hospital, visiting and caring for their seriously
handicapped wives.
Two of the wives have been bed-ridden for several years, the third for a year.
All three wives are in the same ward,
a long term ward for stroke patients with no hope of recovery.
Each night, from 6pm to 8pm, seven nights a
week,
the three husbands are there, washing, cleaning, changing and massaging the feet
of their sick wives. Two of the wives are unable to speak - they have a tube in
their throats.
I go to that ward every few months to visit
another lady who has been there nearly two years.
Each time I go, I see the "three wise men", make that the
"three good husbands"
and think to myself: wow, that is real love, real dedication,
in-sickness-and-in-health love
