Dear Friends
Last
Saturday was a 25th Anniversary for me.
On May 19, 1987 I visited the city of Zhaoqing for the first time.
Zhaoqing, two hours to the west of Guangzhou,
is where I spent 7 happy years 2001-2008.
Zhaoqing
for me, and for many others,
is special because that was the first place
where Matteo Ricci lived when he came to China.
He was in Zhaoqing 1583-1589
In
1987 I stayed one night in Zhaoqing,
and I still have the
receipt for that night.
I stayed in a large dormitory for men,
with a wooden bed and mosquito net,
for the princely sum of Y3 (see the receipt...that's not Y13 or Y30, but Y3!).
Y3 is US$0.47!
I
arrived in Zhaoqing on the afternoon of May 19,
and after checking into my 5-star residence,
I did a "Jericho" around the inner city:
I walked for 2-3 hours, saying a few prayers as I walked,
praying that Zhaoqing would become a place
where the Lord is known and loved
So...I
am very happy to see that
a
permanent Ricci Exhibition has just been opened in Zhaoqing.
In the years 2001-2008 I had
a little bit to do with supporting the idea of an exhibition
Matteo Ricci, pray for us...and Zhaoqing!
