Dear Friends
Events
in Hong Kong in recent days/weeks,
have made a lot of people reflect on the widening gap
between "the governed" and "the government"
It's
a communication gap ("the government" less and less willing to
communicate)
It's a power gap ("the government" less and less willing to share
decision-making)
It's a wealth gap ( "the government" perceived to be on the side
of "big business")
It's a credibility gap ("the governed" doubt the sincerity of
"the government")
It's
a gap that uses tactics like:
- censorship of the media and of meeting agendas
- punishment of any form of disagreement/dissent
It's
a gap that's not just in HK.
Same can be found in many countries in the world
Same is true of the Catholic Church (see yesterday's blog)
(joke: no Protestants in China or the Vatican....because protests are not allowed)
It's a leadership crisis
Leadership
seems to be going the way of the Ancien Régime
.....losing contact with the people,
losing the people's confidence....unable/unwilling to change from an old way of
doing things....
leaders who are good at talking, but don't "walk the talk"
The
"Middle East Spring", like the French Revolution,
shows what happens if leaders are unwilling to allow change by peaceful ways
A similar message can be found in today's
English editorial in the Ming Pao newspaper (HK),
"Leung Faced With Severe Challenges" (July 3). This
editorial, with my recording of same,
can
be accessed here from midday HK time July 3 to mid-evening HK time
July 3
On this
3rd of the month,
Jesus please bless
the people of Gansu
(Please join me in praying for one
part of China each day of the month)
My Bible Plan for today = the readings for today's feast of St Thomas
Thank you for a prayer
God bless!
