Dear Friends
Yesterday
a hole in my heart, an emptiness,
coming to terms with the death of my sister-in-law Yvonne
last Saturday night in a Gold Coast hospital in Australia
- at the end of a six year battle with cancer
Funeral
will probably be tomorrow, but I'm not going
....critical shortage of priests in HK these days...it's summer holiday time,
many priests away on holidays. Yesterday morning one of the pastoral team
at nearby Queen Elizabeth Hospital (one of HK's largest hospitals) phoned to
ask
if I could help a bit more than usual (it's near my home) because two regular
chaplains
from neighboring parishes are overseas....and no replacements.
The idea of going down to Australia and back in a few days is not practical
...no good for health...
I'd need to stay for a week or so....and that means missing a weekend
where
the shortage of priests is at its worst (next weekend I'm due to help in three
different parishes)
...not to mention prison services etc during the week
Which
is why my usual time for holidays in recent years has been between Christmas and
Lunar New Year
when most local priests are on deck
So...I'll
be with my brother and family in spirit.
..and DV an Oblate or two in Australia will take my place at funeral
