Dear Friends

Last night, after an afternoon at Lai Chi Kok Detention Centre,
I went to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for the anointing of three patients
....two of whom will probably be in Heaven by the time you are reading this

The two regular QE chaplains are overseas....and priests can't be found to take
their place. A crazy situation

Even crazier is the fact that HK is blessed with many (married) deacons
who would be ideal for hospital work except for one thing:
they may do baptisms, weddings, funerals...may preach, lead Communion services
....but may not administer the Sacrament of the Sick!!

Reason: S of Sick involves "forgiveness of sins" which only a priest may carry out

I've heard many many priests comment on the sheer stupidity of this law.
It's a law that urgently needs changing....for the sake of the people
