Dear Friends
When
I was a school student,
(well-meaning) teachers and the media taught that China was bad/wrong
and Taiwan was good/right.
Many years later when I read the history of China's civil war
and the atrocities committed by Taiwan's (future) leaders
I realised that what I was taught was not correct.
Both sides of the civil war had lots of bad points
(as well as some good points)
Likewise,
I was taught and the Western media proclaimed that the atomic bombs dropped on
Hiroshima and Nagasaki
were necessary to bring World War II to a speedy finish and save lives.
As a teacher, I passed on this view of history.
Only many years later, when I read articles like those on today's menu,
did I understand that what I had been taught...and what I had taught...
was very, very wrong
No wonder Hong Kong parents are concerned about plans by the HK (read Beijing) government to introduce "National Education" (= National Brainwashing) one of whose aims is to impart a biased view of history
What
is more important than our children being taught the truth?
What is worse than our children being taught...lies?
