Dear Friends
At a detention centre yesterday, an inmate told me he was due to go to court on Octember 18. Inmate is from another country. English is not his first language
People who hear me speak Chinese often hear "Octember"- type mistakes, like the time I asked a man who was holding his baby daughter "Is she two years old yet?" ("yau mo leung seui?")...but my not so hot pronunciation (and the fact that I am a priest) made him think I was saying "Is she baptised yet?" (yau mo ling sai?") so he answered "Yes, she's been baptised"
In
this multi-cultural world, may the Good Lord bless us all with extra patience as
we try to communicate with one another!
