Dear Friends

Last Friday night I joined my Oblate confrere Fr Slawek and his team from Notre Dame Parish as they gave out rice boxes to poor people
- in front of a local clinic

Before we left, a group of Muslim clerics came to the clinic...I guess one of them must have been to the doctor

Since I am very friendly with local Muslims - I often visit the nearby mosque to get copies of the Koran for Muslim inmates....and I often join the inmates for a few minutes during their afternoon prayer - I went over to the clerics to say hello and be friendly

Only to find one of them, not long arrived from Pakistan,  giving me a sermon about going to Hell if I don't do exactly what The Prophet (Mohammed) says.  Should say at the mosque I have never had such an experience...the men there are most respectful and friendly

I didn't interrupt the sermon, but at the end I simply asked your man "Have you heard of Mother Teresa". He said "yes".
Then I asked "Will Mother Teresa go to Hell?"  To which he replied something about a second chance after death to make a final decision that might let her into Heaven

Just now I checked Google...and found this, on the same theme:
Can Mother Teresa go to heaven? (and check some of the 300 comments!)

Mind you, when I was a boy, the Catholic Church taught that Protestants went to Hell....and even now the internet has many sites like this one saying that Catholics automatically go to Hell

And this month (Oct 2012), in Rome, at the Synod of Bishops, Ralph Martin is pushing for a harder line on getting to Heaven

Of course, some people solve the problem of Hell by denying its existence. But that's not what Jesus taught

A bit confusing...so let's just simply pray:

Blessed Mother Teresa - in Heaven! - please help us think more about Heaven than Hell, love than punishment, goodness than evil, right than wrong....may we do more to help more people know the love and friendship of Jesus, and may we and all near and dear to us, of whatever religion, one day hear the words of Jesus: "I was hungry/naked/sick....and you helped me...welcome to Heaven!"
