Dear Friends

Last Sunday night at the usual gathering for ex-inmates and poor people,
7 of the 50 special guests were people who were sleeping "in the park"

After the gathering I took 2 of the 7 to a nearby cheap boarding house,
HK$90 per night, and agreed to help them stay there until their government welfare became available. They came out of prison a month or so ago, but have to wait for more than a month to receive any government assistance....a terrible problem in HK

One of the two has just found a full-time job, the other a part-time job....but neither will receive a salary until they've been working for a month

As I bit the bullet of supporting them (one for 9 nights, the other for 13 nights)...with meals and clothing...I thought nervously about my bankbook's state of the nation

But then, in the next few days, two kind friends out of the blue gave me some "presents"...and I was once again struck by a repeat of what has happened so often before: as soon as I help poor people, "it rains". DG!
