Dear Friends
Yesterday's Reading-Reflection-Prayer menu had a first reading from Isaiah talking about the blind, the deaf, the lame and the dumb
I
was thinking about this reading as I went for a walk yesterday to the local post
office. Near the post office I saw a local rubbish collector (as in: no job,
have trolley, collect items like cardboard that can be sold). We've known
each other for about 3 years. He's deaf and dumb. He waved and smiled, I
waved and smiled. Then as we met up I put my hands to his ears for a few seconds
to say a quick prayer. He knew what I was doing. Not the first time.
Then he did something that hasn't happened before: he gave me a big hug ...on a
busy footpath
And I thought to myself: there's more than one way to be good news for the deaf ....and more than one way for the deaf to be good news for us
God bless all dear deaf friends!
