Dear Friends
China has 83 million handicapped people. Yesterday I met 5 of them in Hong Kong. All 5 had come to HK for begging purposes....two of them were on the street, three in a detention centre
To all of them I gave a copy of the little book Dr Jesus, open at page 34 (for them it was the Chinese edition)...pointing out the line that mentioned their affliction. To the two on the street I gave a small donation
1. Forty-plus lady....met her on street as I went to get metro for detention centre....missing parts of fingers...horribly scarred face and body after being in a fire. After I showed her the book, tears came from her eyes (more accurately her sockets...since eyes badly damaged) so I put my right arm around her shoulder and gave her a hug ...and kissed one of her deformed hands
2. Thirty-plus deaf and dumb man in detention centre. Able to understand page 34. I put my hands over his ears...and for the first time in my life I did what Jesus did: I took some spittle from my tongue and put it on his tongue
3. Thirty-plus man in detention centre....right eye covered by huge smelly growth/boil. Able to see page 34 with his left eye.
4. Thirty-plus man in detention centre....cancer of nose. Grateful for book received after my last visit - a Chinese book on healing prayer, using the teachings of Francis MacNutt
As I went home thinking about and praying for the four above....one more appeared:
5 a thirty-plus crippled man on the street
I
spent a few minutes with each of them ....and helped them say the simple words
"Jesus, help me".
With each of them I also prayed silently to the Holy Spirit that this Pentecost
("5-cost"!) would bring each of them a special blessing
May I invite dear readers to join me in asking the Holy Spirit for a special blessing for them this Pentecost
And may governments and groups and individuals and churches do more for the 83 million handicapped in China
