On this feast of St Eugene de Mazenod, and birthday of Hudson Taylor, may their example give help us be open the Holy Spirit of Pentecost as they were
One saying of Mazenod re Pentecost...which he made for the benefit of his missionaries scattered around the world struggling with new languages: "every missionary's progress in language is a sharing in the Pentecost gift of tongues"
One
saying of Taylor re Pentecost:
“Since the days of Pentecost, has the
whole church ever put aside every other work and waited upon Him for ten days,
that the Spirit’s power might be manifested? We give too much attention to
method and machinery and resources, and too little to the source of power.”
Come Holy Spirit, fall afresh on us, as you fell upon Eugene de Mazenod and Hudson Taylor!

...so settled for Winston Churchill (...the first of many articles DV about
people who struggled through disappointment and failure before achieving
success)
