Dear Friends
Yesterday morning...two sides of a coin: early morning I had long phone call with lawyer of African lady appealing against 17 year sentence for bring 2.9kg of Ice to Hong Kong. Mother of six, trying to get money for her family. Lawyer explained personal situation of carrier not taken into consideration in HK (unlike UK and elsewhere). In HK "big fish" and "little fish" treated the same. Only thing that counts is the amount of substance. Over a certain amount, a fixed sentence. c.f. Mexican men recently sentenced to 17 years for 560kg of cocaine!)
Later in the morning, at Queen Elizabeth Hospital custodial ward....drug addicts...some in agony "drying out"....others with drug-related illnesses (especially illnesses of the lungs, kidney, liver) - the other side of the coin
God, please stop the whole illegal drug trade!
p.s. Yesterday Pope Francis spoke about fighting the drug trade
