Reflection 358
Based
on the 1965 Vatican II document: (Comments welcome here) |
"In fulfilling their office as shepherd, pastors should take pains to know their own flock. Therefore, they should visit homes and schools to the extent that their pastoral work demands. They should devote themselves with a paternal love to the poor and the sick".
Very often the modern pastor has no time for home visits, even no time for hospital visits. Administration and meetings fill his diary day and night
How many priests can say they have been to the homes of most people who come to Mass each Sunday....let alone the much larger number of Catholics who no longer come to church?
Jesus, please help priests turn over administration (finance, schools etc) to lay people....so that priests can get back to being pastors
