"The human race has passed from a rather static concept
of reality
to a more dynamic, evolutionary one.
In consequence there has arisen a new series of problems..."
These words written in 1965 sum up the decades since then.
The decades since 1965 have seen huge changes in the way our world operates
One example: the movement of people from the country to the
city....with all the
business of city life. The majority of the world's people now live in cities.
Static: a peaceful farming area.
Dynamic: a bustling city
All the more reason for the Church to adapt it's thinking and
behaviour.
To stay stuck in static mode while the world moves to dynamic mode
is a recipe for disaster
No teacher, no football coach, no business person
- in their right mind -
refuses to use the advances in their particular fields
(overhead computers, new training methods, business websites)
Jesus, please help your Church "to move
with the times":
Not throwing out babies with bathwater,
but like the wise householder
"bringing from the storeroom things both new and old"
