When Catholics see the pope live or on TV,
our hearts are moved.
It's like seeing a picture of someone very dear to us.
It's like seeing a picture of Jesus
I remember seeing, when Pope John Paul II
died, a Catholic lady in China quietly crying.
It was as if she had lost a family member
That's what the pope is for us: the visible
head of the family,
representing Jesus, The Head of the family
In the same way, the local bishop is very dear
to his people.
He is the local head of the family
Like any good father,
the local bishop must show special care
for poor and sorrowing members of the family
The local bishop must also have a universal heart,
caring about the whole family throughout the world,
especially those members in difficult situations,
caring also for the spreading of the Good News to all places
Jesus, please help me see you in the pope and
in my local bishop,
and please help the pope and my local bishop
to be like you in your care for everyone
