Reflection 415
Based on the 1965 Vatican II document: |
Moreover, that the varied apostolates of the Church with respect to the media of social communication may be strengthened effectively, each year in every diocese of the world, there should be celebrated a day on which the faithful are instructed in their responsibilities in this regard. They should be invited to pray and contribute funds for this cause. Such funds are to be expended exclusively on the promotion, maintenance and development of institutes and undertakings of the Church in this area, according to the needs of the whole Catholic world
When I
check the HK diocesan calendar, I see some special notes for certain Sundays:
- Jan 20: Pray for Christian Unity
- Ap 4: Divine Mercy Sunday
- Ap 21: Pray for Vocations
- Oct 20: Mission Sunday
But no mention of a Media Sunday....which for a long time has been called
"World Communications Sunday" and observed on the Sunday of the
Ascension (this year, May 12)
In
2013 Pope
Benedict, or someone for him, prepared a
message for the 2013 World Communication Day on the theme of social
networks.
But what church/priest used this message...even referred to it...on a big feast
like the Ascension? May as well have it on Christmas Day
In HK at Ascension there's a special collection for the media apostolate....and maybe a special petition in the Prayer of the Faithful....but that's it folks
Given
the huge importance of the media in our lives (which the pope's message refers
to), maybe we need to have a dedicated Media Sunday
Any ideas about this? Please post above!
Jesus, please help the Church give more importance to Media Sunday
