Reflection 387
Based on the 1965 Vatican II document: (Comments welcome here) |
Once again a stress on "variety is the spice of life":
Between the different Rites there exists an admirable bond of union, such that the variety within the Church in no way harms its unity; rather it manifests it, for it is the mind of the Catholic Church that each individual Church or Rite should retain its traditions whole and entire and likewise that it should adapt its way of life to the different needs of time and place.
The
above words were written in 1964.
But in recent decades from the Vatican has come a different stress:
"No variation from the ways things are done in Rome
...when in any place, do as the Romans do"
Such
a turnaround is causing groans in many parts of the world.
See The
Church is too European/Western
Jesus,
please help Pope Francis get Catholic leaders to understand that
"love is a many-splendid thing"!
