Reflection 230
Based on the Vatican II
document (Comments welcome here) |
This
article says that one way to witness to the Gospel
is to become more familiar with the religious traditions of people who are not
Christians, so that we can see the goodness of God in those traditions
and be better prepared for dialogue with people of those traditions
Vatican II's influence can be seen in today's Catholic schools. In today's schools, as in the wider society, there is much more awareness and knowledge of other faiths ...than in years gone by
Migration and the presence of foreign students open our eyes to other cultures and faiths
For me personally, only in the last few years...since engaged in full-time prison work...have I become more aware of the Muslim faith. I now have the dates of Ramadan in my diary...and I sometimes stand or kneel in silent prayer at the back of a group of Muslim inmates as they hold their afternoon prayer in their prison common room...thinking to myself: these guys are praying to God, they are giving God honor. God bless 'em!
