Reflection 244
Based on the Vatican II
document (Comments welcome here) |
Not long ago I heard the provincial of a certain congregation say that in his congregation, missionary formation was almost non-existent...
...despite
these words written 50 years ago in Art 26:
For anyone
who is going to encounter another people should have a great esteem for their
patrimony and their language and their customs.
It is very necessary for the future missionaries to devote themselves to
missiological studies: that is, to know the teachings and norms of the Church
concerning missionary activity, to
know along what roads the heralds of the Gospel have run in the course of the
centuries, and also what is the present
condition of the missions, and what methods are considered more effective at the
present time.
to know along what roads...I wonder how many seminarians, I wonder how many priests and religious, have ever heard of people like Matteo Ricci, Hudson Taylor etc?
Jesus, by your Holy Spirit, please give all Christians, especially priests and religious, a missionary spirit
