Reflection 306
Based
on the 1965 Vatican II document: (Comments welcome here) |
This article, written in 1965, encourages
lay people to take part in professional training, get better educated, develop
their capacities etc
Hundreds of thousands of lay people took the above advice to heart, with the result that they are now often better educated than their clergy
And these educated lay Catholics are no longer "sheeple" (people expected to follow like sheep). They think for themselves, speak out, and want to be heard
As
David Timbs says in his article The
Alienation of the Boomers:
The Church
at Vatican II called for a mature and educated laity and now it has got what it
wished for. The big challenge now is, can the institutional Church catch up and
keep pace with them?
Jesus, please help us priests get out of the road and let the laity get on with it!
