Reflection
77:  Based on Articles 11-13 of  The Sacred Liturgy "SACROSANCTUM CONCILIUM"

If we are to take part properly in Jesus' liturgy,
we need to engage not just our tongues
but our minds and hearts

We also need to remember that our spiritual life
is not limited to taking part in the liturgy at church

We are called to be people who love to pray privately
"at home or work or on the way"

Our private prayer and private devotions should harmonize with the liturgical seasons:

e.g. When we pray the Rosary on Christmas Day (and Christmas Eve),
use the Joyful Mysteries, to meditate on the birth of Jesus

e.g. When we pray the Rosary on Good Friday,
use the Sorrowful Mysteries, to meditate on the passion and death of Jesus

e.g. For our Bible reading on Sundays and Feast Days, it's best to use the Mass readings of those days

Jesus, please help us love to pray,
and pray in harmony with the liturgy

the Church, above all when they are ordered by the Apostolic See.

Devotions proper to individual Churches also have a special dignity if they are undertaken by mandate of the bishops according to customs or books lawfully approved.

But these devotions should be so drawn up that they harmonize with the liturgical seasons, accord with the sacred liturgy, are in some fashion derived from it, and lead the people to it, since, in fact, the liturgy by its very nature far surpasses any of them.
