One sentence in article 23 says
"As far as possible, notable differences between the rites used in adjacent
regions must be carefully avoided."
Yet now Pope Benedict has allowed the very different old rite
to be used along with the new rite
not just in adjacent regions,
but in the same country,
in the same area,
in the same parish
His hope is that the old rite will replace the new rite
He seems to have the right to change a rite,
according to article 22:
"Regulation of the sacred liturgy depends solely on the
authority of the Church,
that is, on the Apostolic See and, as laws may determine, on the bishop.
...No other person, even if he be a priest, may add,
remove, or change anything in the liturgy on his own authority."
This is not a small question.
Does this mean that Benedict has the right
to put anything that Vatican II said about liturgy
into the rubbish bin?
Should we not say that Benedict is obliged to act according to
the mind
of the two popes and 2,000 bishops of Vatican II who said how liturgy was to be
done?
Does anyone know a good canon (church) lawyer to throw some light on this issue please?
Jesus, do you want us to go back to the old rite?
