Reflection 216
Based on the Vatican II
document (Comments welcome here) |
A
person's right to religious freedom
is not a right to "do what you like"
Like
other freedoms, religious freedom should
have a close friend called "personal and social responsibility"
This close friend lives at a place called "the common good"
The ground floor of that place is called "public order"
Brian
Lewis has two excellent articles
on the fundamental importance of "public order"
in any consideration of "the common good":
The role of the politician regarding permissive legislation
Civil and Ecclesiastical Disobedience
Jesus,
please help us exercise our freedoms responsibly!
