Reflection 317

This
article speaks about contemplative communities
Pope Paul VI once invited/challenged such communities to help with a bit of ministry outside the monastery...especially given the shortage of priests/religious in so many parts of the world
Each
Wednesday I get two ferries to Hei Ling Chau Island drug centre.
Hei Ling Chau is just across the water from the Trappist Monastery on Lantau
Island
I
often wish/hope that maybe some day one or two of the monks might be interested
in visiting the 800 men at the island's two male centres. The need is great.
Apart from a weekend prayer service, generously run by Catholic and Evangelical
lay people two or three times a month, there is no other pastoral visitation (Catholic or other) of the
centres, apart from my weekly visit. Have tried, but can't find anyone, Catholic
or other, to help. A priest/pastor/monk with a chaplain's pass can freely visit
all the inmates in their workshops/dining halls etc.
The harvest is great, but there is just one laborer...who has to do a lot of
travelling to get there and back
Jesus, please encourage contemplative communities to take up Pope Paul's invitation
