2014-12-16    Christmas cancels conflicts

Like Chinese New Year, Christmas is a time for reconciliation and peace as families and friends come together for meals and an exchange of gifts.

On Christmas Day 1914, German and British soldiers of World War One stopped fighting, left their trenches and exchanged prisoners, food and souvenirs. Some even sang Christmas carols, and played football!

Such is the effect of remembering a very special Baby born in a stable two thousand years ago, at whose birth angels sang about "peace on earth."

May this Christmas be a time of peace in our troubled world, in hot-spots like the Middle East, Africa and Ukraine, as well as between China and its neighbours, and even in the "trenches" of Hong Kong!
