November 3, 2015 South China? Sea
In order to kowtow to Beijing, Hong Kong Media is increasingly accepting China's claims about the South China Sea. But the situation is far from black and white as to which country owns what.
When I look at the area inside the red line which China is claiming as its territory, I see that one part of the red line is almost touching the long, thin island of Palawan, a province of the Philippines. That same section of red line is more than 1,000 kilometres from China.
“Our generation is not wise enough to find common language on this question,” Deng Xiaoping said in 1978 about China's territorial dispute with Japan. In the meantime, Deng proposed, the two sides should jointly develop the area’s rich economic resources. May this wisdom be followed by all sides in the present dispute.
