July 26, 2016 MTR: Offenders will be prosecuted???
"Hawking is an offence. Offenders will be prosecuted". How often have we heard these words at MTR stations? But has the MTR ever actually prosecuted a hawker?
One morning a couple of weeks ago I phoned Jordan MTR to report hawkers on the inside steps of Exit A. In the afternoon I phoned to say the same hawkers were back in the same place.
At present the only method the MTR has for stopping hawkers is to employ a member of staff to stand for long hours at places where the hawkers operate.
Plan A: stop broadcasting the message that offenders will be prosecuted. It's not true! Plan B: security cameras at hawker haunts. Plan C: Someone, somewhere pass some MTR hawking laws which have teeth!
