May 8, 2018 My mother .... and HK elderly women
My dear mother was born on this day in 1911, in the town of Bourke in New South Wales. She left this world for Heaven in 2005. Her birthday and Mother's Day make me remember her in a special way this week.
As I think of my mother, I can't help also thinking about the growing number of elderly women in Hong Kong who urgently need help. Like the cardboard collectors .... and the dozens of women who sleep at McDonald's.
On April 24 The Guardian published an embarrassing international report about the cardboard collectors: https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2018/apr/24/hong-kong-cardboard-grannies-elderly-box-collectors-recycling-poverty
With more than one trillion dollars in the bank, isn't it about time that the Hong Kong government did more for its poorest citizens?
