May 29, 2018: Land shortage in HK ....fake news?

Hong Kong urgently needs many more homes. Homes need to be built on land. But there's a shortage of land. Therefore land needs to be reclaimed from parks and the sea.

The first two statements above are undeniable. But is there a shortage of land? If you Google "Hong Kong brownfield" you'll find articles speaking about 1,300 hectares of brownfield land which could provide 84,000 flats.

And what about the thousands of completed flats which are being hoarded by developers waiting for higher prices? Google "Hong Kong developers hoard empty flats" for information about the thousands of empty flats being hoarded.
