January 29, 2019  HK Customs & Excise - & the Year of the Pig!

At the end of 2018 when Hong Kong authorities became aware of swine flu posing a threat to Hong Kong, they did something really brilliant: they contacted their counterparts in Mainland China to discuss the problem.

But on January 3 in Kuala Lumpur when I had a meeting with two of Malaysia's top narcotics superintendents, they told me they did not know that 23 young Malaysians had been arrested in Hong Kong in 2018, most of them at Hong Kong airport, for drug trafficking. No one in Hong Kong had informed them.

So, as I wish dear readers good health in the Year of the Pig, may I make a rocket-scientist-type suggestion: when drug mules are arrested in Hong Kong, let Hong Kong Customs and Excise contact the countries of origin to discuss the problem!
