March 26: Slavery - in Rome, US, China & HK

Slavery has many faces. It underpinned the Roman Empire and the infant US Republic (20% of the US population in 1776 were slaves).

Tens of millions of migrant labourers on sub-standard wages worked in factories for up to 13 hours a day to make possible the economic growth of modern China.

A recent report says that lowly-paid migrant domestic helpers working excessive hours contribute nearly HK$100 billion each year to Hong Kong's economy.

Google "wage slavery" for much information about the fact that unfair labour conditions are a form of slavery. There's even an article "Why Millennials are the new wage slaves"!
