2020-02-04: The Wuhan virus - and Africa
These words are being written from South Africa where I am visiting families of prisoners in Hong Kong and doing publicity to try to stop drug mules going to Hong Kong. Before South Africa I also went to Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania.
The news about the Wuhan virus has made me very sad. And very concerned: tens of thousands of people from the Mainland will soon be returning to Africa for work or study after the Lunar New Year holiday, but there is little if any Wuhan virus monitoring here for arrivals from China.
China has invested billions of dollars in Africa. What Africa urgently needs right now is help with airport security ... to combat drug trafficking as well as to monitor health issues ... to combat drugs and bugs.
(Update: The Wuhan virus was renamed Covid 19 on Feb 11, 2020, a week after this article was written)
