January 1, 2012 New Year Resolution
During a meeting last year,
someone suggested
that if we want renewal
- for ourselves, for our group, for the church -
then one thing is essential:
We must rededicate ourselves to reading the Bible
Bible reading is the fire that
keeps many pots warm:
service of the poor, prayer, eagerness to spread the Gospel, fidelity, etc
Vatican 2 called on all
Catholics, all Christians,
to have "a burning love for the Bible"
My personal plan in recent years
has been a 4-course meal
based on the Sunday liturgy:
- a reading from the Old Testament
- a psalm (or part thereof)
- a reading from the Gospels
- a reading from some other part of the New Testament
These readings are the basis of
my morning prayer.
I try to reflect on them during the day
(often using a decade of the Rosary to mediate on each reading
....as I walk the street, travel on a bus/train - anywhere, anytime).
The readings are the basis of my evening prayer
When I do my prison rounds, my (usually silent) prayer for the inmates
is often based on one of the daily readings
May I invite v2catholic.com
friends to try this Bible plan
- as a way of helping us follow the vision of Vatican 2 at a difficult time in
church/world history
-as a way for God to give us hope, strength, courage and peace for our daily
lives
May this be a New Year Resolution
for all of us:
a rededication to Bible reading
DV the Bible plan readings for
each day
will be linked each day on this site
For Sundays and special days,
the Bible plan will use the readings of those days
