January 22, 2012 Bishop Bill Morris & Catholic Media
In recent days new information has appeared
regarding the case of Bishop Bill Morris of Toowoomba
1:
Judge's
conclusions re Bishop Bill Morris
2: Canon lawyer's report re Bishop Bill Morris
3: Interview with judge re Bishop Bill Morris
This information shows ever more clearly
the great injustice that was done to Bishop Morris
In the coming week
it will be interesting to see what sort of treatment, if any,
this information receives in the Catholic media
Next Sunday (Jan 29), check Australia's
Catholic papers
to see if they even mention this issue:
- The Catholic Weekly
(Sydney) (when I clicked "Breaking News" Jan 21 it was blank, "broke")
- The Catholic Leader (Brisbane)
- The Record (Perth)
Not to mention CathNews ...no mention
Jan 19, 20...even though info appeared Jan 18...
Jan 23 - item
re Michael Kelly's article in Tablet...but no link to three items at top of
this page....not allowed to?....thank Goodness for Eureka
Street!
Jan 24 - item re
petition to stop Communion on hand ....ok to put reform-of-reform stuff...
but still no link to Eureka
Street....not ok to cover the no. 1 Catholic news item in the country
today...?
It is no secret that editorial freedom of the
Catholic media
is a restricted species
Which is sad when you think about it:
media not allowed to discuss a clear issue of injustice in the church
....not allowed open discussion of a range of topics
Reminds me of the media in China....
not allowed to let people know what's going on
But "China" does not include Hong
Kong:
In 2011 the Catholic papers in Hong Kong
- The Kung Kao Pao (Chinese) and The
Sunday Examiner (English) -
had more information about the Bishop Morris case
than the Catholic papers in Australia!
Why? Because the HK papers, unlike the papers in Australia,
have real editorial freedom
