By the side of the road - two true stories
Story 1: Last Saturday night as I walked to a bus stop to go home after a meeting, I noticed an accident had just happened. An old man had been knocked down by a mini-bus. Man was lying on road, attended by a policeman and a policewoman. Ambulance had not yet arrived.
I
went to the scene. Man had big pool of blood under his head. I just put my right
hand on one of his legs, said the name "Jesus" silently, then left.
In HK police/ambulance and rescue people don't like anyone getting in the road,
especially foreigners....understandable
The accident happened right at front door of one of HK's largest churches (not a Catholic church). Well-dressed male ushers at front door were welcoming people arriving for a soon-to-start service. I went up steps to front door and said to ushers (in Cantonese) "Could you please ask someone to go to that accident man. He's bleeding badly from the head. Could someone please go over and pray near him"
They being locals....easier for them to be part of the scene than a foreigner
But, "no movement at the station"....just a "nothing to do with us" sort of reaction". In fact, they must have seen the accident happen, but no-one had gone to the man on the road
As I walked along to bus stop, I continued to pray for the man....and kept looking back to see if anyone from the church went to the man. Didn't see anyone go
End of story one
Story 2: The day Mother Teresa kept the Pope waiting
