June 24: These days much of my time is spent writing letters like the one referred to in this Court case summary ... also much time going to court to support inmates, as I did for the inmate in this particular case. One's presence in court gives encouragement to the inmate and seems to bring a blessing on the whole show

4, 2016 Letter (in
Swahili) from a Tanzanian inmate in a Hong
Kong prison.
Her story and her warning about the danger of being arranged/tricked/forced to
bring drugs to HK
April 23: Yesterday morning I was at the High Court to support a 48-year old husbandless mother-of-five Ugandan woman. A most sympathetic judge and one of HK's top barristers could do little - because of HK's strict guidelines - to save her from a heavy sentence for drug trafficking. After a reduction of one third for pleading guilty and another one third for good behaviour, she will serve about 9 years. She was in distress before, during and after the trial - her tears kept flowing.... another victim of economic desperation in Uganda exploited by HK's Nigerian Drug Lords based at Mirador Mansion in Tsim Sha Tsui. As the barrister said in his appeal for mitigation "it beggars belief that the (HK) authorities have not taken action to stop the Mirador Mansion gang".
April 21:
At Hong Kong's High Court, 2 Indonesian female asylum seekers yesterday each received prison sentences of about 20 years (which means c. 9 years after cuts) for drug trafficking

March 10: Two days ago at a detention centre I met about a dozen recently arrested drug mules facing long sentences in Hong Kong. They came from different countries in South America, Asia and Africa (not East Africa!). All but one were persuaded or tricked or forced to bring drugs to HK by Nigerian Drug Lords based in South America, Asia and Africa. Shame, Nigeria, shame, shame, shame. I hope the new Nigerian government will assign special police officers to track down (not difficult) and arrest (not easy) these Nigerian Drug Lords who are destroying lives and families in many parts of the world.
