Holy Week 2014

  Darlene's background

It was always a special occasion to go to church and get my palm.  I’m sure millions of Catholics around the globe partook in Palm Sunday.  For most of my life, I understood, from the scriptures, that the crowds waving palms, as Jesus entered Jerusalem, meant that all those spectators were believers.  Actually, some of them, may have been believers, and the others, were probably there to mock Jesus, rather, than really acknowledge Him, as the true King of the Jews.  Otherwise, how can it be explained, that a few days later, Jesus is crucified with the Jewish spectators approval?

We certainly do not take up our palm to mock Jesus.  We are well aware of who Jesus was and who Christ is……I love the line from 2 Corinthians, chapter 2, verse 14 “Praise Be God Who In Jesus Christ Leads Us In Triumphal Procession, Spreading In Every Corner The Fragrance Of Jesus Christ.” (paraphrased)  The smell of the palm might well serve as a concrete example, of the fragrance of Christ, especially during Holy Week.

Let us be aware this week, that with Jesus Christ dwelling in us, that we are the aroma of Christ as the palm suggests.  We take that aroma to every place that we are called and blessed to be sent!  Be a Holy Fragrance for people this Holy Week.!
