Happy Easter Everyone!

The stone was rolled away from the tomb, and Jesus, being no more , had become, the CHRIST. That was, and is, the Easter Joy, that Jesus Christ, is risen and with us!

Perhaps, Pope Francis with Christ, rolled away a stone from the tomb of the Church, only this past week. The newspaper, the Tablet, reported that Pope Francis , suggested, to an Austrian Bishop serving in Brazil, that the local bishop’s conferences, ought to come together, to solve local Church concerns, like the shortage of priests. One of the solutions, that might be considered, is ordaining proven married men, known as "viri probati".

While the ordaining of married men, would further stymie the choice of women for the priesthood, I do applaud Pope Francis, for creating a new Church/Vatican precedent. What is the new precedent? The new precedent , is that the Pope is suggesting, that local bishops conferences, create solutions, to solve local Church concerns. That precedent, gives support to the principle of collegiality, gives support to local churches, to address local pastoral needs, and gives support to the Vatican, to institute change and adapt to presenting ecclesial problems. This is a momentous shift, away, from the usual Vatican position of, "No, it cannot be done".

As I noted above, ordaining married men, might well stymie the cause of women, however, with a precedent in place, where local Churches are encouraged to solve particular ecclesial problems, it seems reasonable to assume, that the solution of ordaining women, is a future possibility.

Pope Francis has potentially released the stranglehold, that the Church experiences, because new ways of "doing business", might well, be on the horizon. I would call that moving from death to life, hence, another example of the resurrection, and a reason for our Easter Joy!
