A Lenten Message (Comments welcome here) |
|
36 'Be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate
Today’s words from the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 6, are printed above and they are powerful! We know that Pope Francis is relentless in his teaching about Catholic Christians being compassionate, and he not only preaches this message, but, he leads by example, in demonstrating the compassion of God for all of humankind, including the poor and disenfranchised.
I have heard numerous people talking about what they offered up for Lent. Invariably, I hear things like, “well, I gave up chocolate and candy for Lent” or “I’m spending less time on Facebook”. I challenge you to move beyond such superficial offerings. Reflect upon the words of verse 36 above and examine yourself and your life to see if there is any place and time where you could be as “compassionate as your Father”.
